Hello Everyone,

I moved over here from the Inboard forum. I have an old jet boat (matter of fact the first jet boat) that the engine is now obsolete and I can no longer get parts for. I'm not concerned with originality just functionality. So I'm thinking of putting a 130 hp sea doo motor in the thing. the boat is 15' 9" and is not real heavy, will this Engine push the boat and passengers well. I like the idea because of its compact and light. The original engine was only 150 h.p. So what do you guys think?

well, the 130HP engine has its own jetpump system and the impeller must be calibrated with the torque curve of the engine.

if your 150HP engine revs 5000RPM WOT and has a lot of torque, and the 130HP seadoo revs 7000RPM, it won't be able to spin the old engine's jet pump.

I think your best bet is to find an engine that has the same WOT RPM range as your old motor then, the closer HP possible

but 130HP should move your boat no problem, i have a sea-raider with a Force 120HP 4 cylinder jetpump and it's good. Not the fastest or most powerfull system but it is economical and can do about 40ish mph.

hmm Yeah your are right I didn't think about it like that. That old inline six that was in that boat wide open was only about 4200 ish so I think I'll look at some mer cruiser engines. Thanks for the input.
