sea anchors

So if you lose power and need to use a sea anchor do hang it off the stern or the bow.I live neer salt water inland waters with some strong currants.

Neither, it doesn't sound like a sea anchor is what you should be using at all given what you have written. A sea anchor will slow down your movement over the bottom (and keep you headed into the wind) in high wind situations. You did not mention anything about wind, but you did mention "strong currents". The use of a sea anchor in strong currents will just pull you over the bottom faster than not using anything at all. If you loose power and need to keep from drifting into trouble a 'regular' bottom anchor is what you need to be using.
Cap't Sam is correct in that if you are in a situation where a sea anchor is used then most of the time, off the bow is where it is streamed from (though there are specific times when off the transom is needed).
