sei drives are just aftermarket direct replacement drives for mercruisers (and others). http://www.sterndrive.cc/
the 116 is a replacement for alpha1 genII drives.

usually the reason for replacement is the old drive had a catastrophic failure of some kind. at least one that was more expensive to repair than to just R&R the whole drive with the new aftermarket w/ warranty.

best i understand. sei drives are copies of the oems.

Um, ask the previous owner what his motivation was.

Money. About $1600 for a new Alpha Gen II SEI clone. 3 year no fault warranty. No brainer.
I have a Gen 1 on my boat, and if it EVER fails, SEI is getting a call. ($1300 for a Gen 1) No problems from their drives that I know of. A friend bought a pocket cruiser with an SEI on it. No problems so far on his. Pressure tested after he bought the boat.

I've even thought about just buying one for a spare, but I don't want to lose out on warranty time.
