Hi folks,
I am trying to fit the SE sport 300 to my motorand am not sure if this is the correct position to place. I feel the foil should sit further forward ( towards the boat ) to sit above the prop more, but I can't take any further due to the design of the anti cav plate on the lower unit. :embarassed:please don't judge me on the condition of the lower unit as I hit some rocks on the low tide last week:mad-new:. The unit looked mint prior to that stuff up.
Please any help would be valued.

The problem I seem to be having is the raised area behind the stud for the trim tab and the chamfered area of the yoke. Does anyone know if I should cut out this chamfered area so the yoke fits snug up against the area for the trim tam stud or have the foil sitting on the ramp area leaving a small gap between that area and the foil. I am sure out of the 50 or so people who have viewed this, someone would have some knowledge about fitting these. I am trying to eliminate a problem I have while under steam at low speed. The boat drifts port then starboard, 15 - 20 deg both ways. The funny thing is over 100mtr it ends at the correct heading, it just tracks port to starboard during the time of travel. It feels like I have a sensitive auto pilot. I have good hydraulic steering too.

Pete, Looks ok to me, but what is important is motor height and angle of motor to the bottom of your boat.Too much angle and you drive the bow too deep and loose speed. From the pictures we can't tell if the se 300 is just even with the bottom of your boat where it should be.

Yes cut it, it should be flat to your cave plate for sure.

Thanks Star, I now need to be super careful while cutting this I am told. I have been told that a small amount of error can cause more peoblems than what the foil is worth. I will try to get another picture of the hull and foil in 1 shot.

I took it off and asked my dealer if I needed a new tab, the tab is back on. I did mark the tab before removal for correct position on refitting.

Ok I,ll be putting on my dolphins too as mine is doing the same thing esspecially when it,s windy. Tracks back and forth a bit. One thing you might want to check is the condition of the lower mounts. I havn,t had time to replace mine as I,ve been 8 months working on getting the powerhead staright and actually had a good run yesterday. I have changed the uppers. If you can get the mount covers off without to much trouble check for cracking in the rubber or even a cracked braket.

Ok it is rather dark down under in Australia but I hope the 2 pics I just took shows that the anti cav plate or cav plate or what you like to call it is nearly flush inline with the hull.

This is a shot before I had a tickle with the rocks on low tide. I stopped to have a mens rest stop over the side and by the time I powered on I was blowen off my heading. It only took a few seconds to have a pee but it shows how things can change in just a short time.
Bring Out Another Thousand! I'll get it back to it's glory.
Anyhow, should the hydrofoil sit above the prop or is it fine sitting just behind like in the first group of pictures?

Looks like it,s plenty low enough. Mine actually rides a bit higher. You appear to have a bigfoot lower unit on there in the picture in the next post. The intake is in the front not the center indicating it to be a bigfoot. I can only guess ythe hydrofoil is not for a bigfoot LU. As long as it is flush with the cavitation plate and secure it should work ok.

The addition of the 'fin' is not going to improve your low speed 'meandering' tracking. That problem may be the 'slop' in rubber motor mounts and play in steering.

What the fin will do is help create additional lift and may improve acceleration to planing height, at the expense of additional drag which often causes a small reduction in WOT speed.

I have a fin, and I even put it on for the added lift when pulling the kids on a tube and keeping it to a reasonably safe speed for the kids.

Many brands of fins must be 'trimmed' to fit.
