Scouuting Report on 1988 70 Yamaha

I have a chance to ge this motor for $500, what's the scouting report on 'em. This iwaht the seller told me. Do most people disconnect the oil injection?<br /><br />"1988 70 hp Yamaha, Good even comp. 105 to 95 in all 3 cyl and runs. Motor has been repainted. It has powertrim and tilt. Oil injection, and has a excellent prop"

Hi C, They are good engines. 95 to 105 is not all even compression but that should work. The only problem yamaha had was a corrosion problem. If you use it in salt water then you need to clean the engine every time you go out. I would also pick up a can of corrosion block. You can buy this at a merc dealer or at an omc dealer and a can of powertune. Use the powertune to remove carbon from the engine and spray the corrosion block on the power head to seal from any further corrosion. 500 bucks is a good price for an engine that runs good and has tnt.

hi (again) "C",<br /><br />bonitoman gave sound advise. OMC Engine-tune, Power-tune, or Sea-Foam (available at Napa), can be used to perform a "de-carb" which MAY get your compression up/more even. Do a search in this forum on "decarb". Tons of info and explainations<br /><br />Good Luck<br />HAVE FUN!
