Has anyone fished with this black box? What is your experience with this? Convince me to buy this or not!

According to Scotty's website, this is the item to purchase with your downrigger. Does this really work? It makes sense and all, but I can't seem to reach into my pocket and come up with $250.

Re: Scotty's Black Box

it's based on the commercial guys- but how well it works for sport fishermen , I really don't know.My guide doesn't use it-figures it's a gimmick and he 's a high liner.But- some guys swear by them. There is something to do with electrical current though and the effect it has on gear.

I seriously doubt it that I'll get this until I know for SURE that this will do the trick.

I guess I'm that type of person 'gotta see it to believe it'.

Re: Scotty's Black Box

I use the one made by Pro-Troll, its the same one that Cabelas sells. It is less expensive then the Scotty one.

Pro-Troll Black Box

I fish the Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca for salmon.

Its not some magic device that will make you always catch fish all day long but I think it does help when the action is slow. I fished Sekiu a couple of weeks ago and if you did not get your limit in less then an hour you were doing something very wrong. There were so many fish that you could use almost anything to catch them. By contrast, my brother and I fished the Discovery Bay Derby last February and he caught the winning fish. There were over 400 boats fishing the derby from first-light till 2pm for 3 days and there were less then 40 fish checked in over the whole 3 days. The fishing was Very Slow. Did the Black Box help? I know it did not hurt!

I did check my boat to see what the natural voltage was and it was in the right range without the Black Box. But I like to able to change the voltage and have it stable.

Damon
