my 2-stroke '90 5 hp was not idling adn then missing above 25% throttle. the compression was 75psi. i took the power head apart and to my delight, found that the piston and the cylinder was scored on a half inch area just opposite the "up" stamp. i am wondering how to go about to fix it. i would like to do the work myself because 90 bucks an hour aint fun. there is a special place in my heart for this motor and i just cant let her go...

Get the OEM service manual, NOT an aftermarket Clymers or Seloc, and follow the instructions explicitly. You will have a motor that runs for years.

shoot $75. the engine is worth not much more than that. i have a seloc manual and was just wondering if i could take the cylinder to ace(they have a small engine repair shop) or go to the mercury place and have them re hone it and buy a new piston.
