What would you do?

Had mechanic look at this motor today and the compression checked at 120psi, 120psi and 95 psi on the bottom hole. I don't have the money to think about a new 70 at this time. I have never run this boat motor before! How bad is it to run this with that low compression cylinder and think about other options later after running it awhile.

His quote to rebuild the 3 cylinders is about $1500, not to mention the added expensive of carbs overhaul, new fuel pump and new water pump.

Should I scrap the motor or is worth maybe around $3000.00 to fix everything? Thanks in advance.

Decarb it first and YOU check the readings again before you take any action...

Decarbing

Take Ricks advice.

As long as the bottom cylinder is not scoring or already scored, you will not hurt it by running it.

Rebuilding the carbs and replacing the water pump is a standard part of a rebuild. Not an extra.

Leopoldo, Email me ASAP I might be able to set you up with a 1984 70 Hp powerhead 122,125 125 compression! I also have 3 new rebuilt carbs that were on this motor when the Stator/Timer base failed!
nevetsd@aol.com
