Years ago we had a 18' Glastron trihull with a 160 hp volvo inboard. My wife was backing me and the boat into a lake by way of a primitive boat ramp. I guess what makes it stupid is that I unhooked the the bow strap and told her to come back a little more. When she did the trailer wheels fell into a deep hole and the bow of the boat went straight up into the air. I thought for sure it was going clear over and she did too. I don't think I have ever been so thankful of anything as I was when the bow started coming back down and the stern started coming back up. Funny but I never had the feeling that I was going to fall out of the boat, just that it was going to come over on top of me.

Re: Scary Boat Launch

So this hole you entered by going back a bit farther was caused by what? Maybe power-loading? I also wonder how many others did this before and after you did? Here in Michigan powerloading is illegal, because of the damage it causes to boat ramps. Many folks just ignore it and hammer down, but stories like this sure make me think. I never did this because it's just as easy to back the trailer down far enough to float the boat on and then secure it down. Glad things worked out OK for you both.

i never un strap bow strap untill my boats stern it lifted from the water. im to afraid of it slipping off on to the concrete. this will never happen. ya my boat is so easy to load i just hit the trailer at 3-5mph and it seats its self. few cranks of the winch and im off.

Re: Scary Boat Launch

tilt trailers wil do that, too; you can't load heavy stuff like coolers into the stern until you launch
