I get 8 to 12 scam-o-grams a day. You know, the ones that tell you they have millions of bux for you if you just surrender your life history and/or send a few hundred bux through Western Union. Danged nuisance.

Got a new twist today. This one says that the Republic of Benin has authorized them to compensate scam victims and they have you on the list. Just give them your life history and pay the taxes and they will send you big bux.

Anyone else get this much (bad word)? Anyone know how to make it stop (other than changing your Email address)?

I have no idea how to stop it but thought i'd share something that's happening at my house. 3 times at least the phone rings and as I answer an automated voice says......only after I wait and then say hello......... DON"T HANG UP this is the FBI warning you about home invasions or some other horrible threat and that's about all i've listened too. It happened again today and I answered only because the caller ID said WASHINGTON. I thought it was going to be a survey or someone asking my opinion on the election. I'm pretty sure the FBI doesn't solicit.

I really never heard of a true fix to stop it. Adding it to spam folder will eliminate you seeing that email again.

Re: Scam-o-grams, and a new twist.

I got tired of looking up Spammers IP server and sending Nasty-Grams to get their account terminated. There is so much I'd waste the whole day, or more, at it.

I bought into MailWasher, an ap that polls all my mail accounts, compares the senders to know spam data banks, marks those messages for deletion, then presents me a list of all my messages to select which ones, if any, that I wish to keep. Then MailWasher deletes all the junk from each server, opens my mail program and all that is downloaded is the messages that I want.

MW can be adjusted to auto delete the spam but I have found some of the stuff family forwards to get marked as spam so I prefer to manually check address just to be sure.

If your email has a "mark as" tab at the top along with the "delete" "forward" and "send" buttons click on it and then click on the Phishing scam in the drop-down menu... I did this to everyone of those I got for a month and now I don't get any more.

How to stop them?

Don't use a hotmail or aol email address.
Use Gmail, if you are willing to put up with their carp.
Or use Apple's mail service.
Don't ever click on anything in these emails, or your address get distributed.
Use a secondary email address for any suspect sites, or restrains, or warranty info, or drawings at the farm show, etc.
Anything coming to that address is going to be junk, so you know to never check it.

I only get 1-2 spam emails per day, usually from a site or company that I have had dealings with.

I never get the scam emails, and feel a bit slighted. Everyone else gets the free money, and I get to go to work for mine.

I get dozens of SPAM mails every day on my AOL account, very few on my Comcast account, none on my work account.

The AOL account is what I use to do most of my online purchasing, and I believe that is why it attracts the most SPAM. I purchase a lot of stuff at work, but our SPAM filtering is more robust.

The AOL account is fairly easy to deal with, because I do not even read the messages, I just delete them in mass fashion.

My ISP is Cox cable and they automatically block all that trash. I never see it.

May jinx myself, but I never get one anymore with my Gmail account. Not sure there's any way to stop them, I'm afraid. And, the scammers are multiplying out there in the world. Can't list anything on Craigslist anymore due to all the scams, and now there's all the "email address gathering ads" out there. Just a few months ago, crooks tried to pray on my 76 year old mother by calling her and trying to convince her they were her grandson (my son) and that he'd been in an accident, broke his nose, and now needed $2000 to "bail himself out" of jail. She came close to falling for it, until she realized that my son wouldn've definitely called me first, before he caller her. She even said his name, trying to confirm which grandson (silly girl) and they answered, "Yes, that's me...I don't sound like myself because my nose is broke". I wonder how man people, though, do in fact fall for it?

I know it is hard to catch these horrible excuses of mankind that would prey on old folks. But the penalties for those caught commiting these crimes could not be severe enough IMO.

Re: Scam-o-grams, and a new twist.

I get very little in my hotmail, yahoo, gmail or work, I get a lot in my home email, I tried adding them to the block list for about three weeks, they never let up, I think they knew I was blocking them and added more, I finally gave up and changed to aggressive scan and check the junk folder before I delete. The home email has never been used on web sites, that is what hotmail, yahoo and gmail are for.
