Lake Murray has several island camping spots as well as Dreher Island, one of the local state run campgrounds. They have nice 3-4 bedroom vistas as well. The Rusty Anchor located in one of the northern coves at the eastern end of the lake has a nice lakeside restaurant with a bar - pull the boat right up.

Lake Hartwell has Bull Feathers which is a restaurant that you can pull right up to. There are plenty of islands to camp at on Hartwell too. Lake Keowee (my personal favorite) has The Tiki Bar which is a great restaurant that gets hopping on the weekends, again plenty of camping sites. Keowee also has the waterfall beach and the rock that are popular hang out spots. If your into site seeing Jocassee has some beautiful waterfalls. I'm in Greenville and am originally from South Florida and while I miss the fishing in Florida these lakes up here in my opinion are more scenic. We are out every weekend - hope to see you out there.

Lanier is down about 2 feet from full pool, which is pretty good considering its tail end of summer. We broke the drought in N. Georgia last year or thereabouts when a couple of neighborhoods washed away in the floods.

As to any camping spots, there are several campgrounds (state, local, and Core of Engineers) right on the lake which have docks and ramps. You are not allowed to camp anywhere on Lake Lanier except in developed and managed campgrounds.

He posted "new to onboard camping" so I'm thinking he may be planning to spend the night on the boat while anchored.

A lot of my friends refer to staying overnight on the hook as "boat camping". I don't.

I saw that you are from north charleston. I work at the coast guard station in georgetown. I'm always headed to sector charleston for something about work. I'm surprised I've never met you during a safety boarding.

I get my safety inspections at my marina each year. I pass. ;)

congrats on the passing

It's pretty simple. Know the law, obey the law, equip your boat, maintain your boat. ;)

Of course, the first time they inspected, they were training a new person and she was giving me a hard time for not having a bilge blower. I have a diesel inboard which doesn't require one. I explained that to her, she asked the person training her, he agreed with me, and all was well.
