Well last weekend we went to the "old homestead" my grandparents bought back in 1910 (just a couple of acres)
It was willed to my mom and aunt years back and now it was decided to sell it as it was alot of work as you can see.
I have not spent alot of time there over the last few years but I litterly grew up there in the summers and will miss not having it available anymore.

Maybe you should keep it a while longer...might change your mind about selling it....maybe rent it out for a year?...

Thats what they did for the last 14 years so no one really could enjoy it in the summer.

Re: Saying good bye to the old homestead

rbh, I think almost all of us can sympathize with ya on this.... In the last year I've found myself daydreaming at least once a day for 20-30 minutes, thinking back to my child-hood memories from my grandparents house. They sold the house around 12-13yrs ago and moved into another smaller house, then into an apartment. Well, This past April 29th marked the one-year anniversary of my grandmothers passing, and I can't help but get lost in those old memories from their old place in the country. I, too, spent most weekends, and almost the entire summer there every year until I was about 15 or 16yrs old. I find myself at times smiling and laughing out loud at the memories, then just as quick find myself tearing up at the thought of never being able to experience those times again. I often wish so hard that I could just go back to their old place, if just for a few minutes... see the sights, smell the soft air in the evening, and just go back. I guess my point of this is, before the place sells, if you can, go out there by yourself, quietly take it all in, and just close your eyes, and let yourself go back... I guess you could say, make sure you get closure on your memories, as I wish I could have.

This might sound crazy, but go to a web site called "dearPhotograph.com" it is about people taking photos holding a picture from years go taken in the same place. Hard to explain the effect it can have, you just need to go see for yourself, you may decide to do the sme thing.

Re: Saying good bye to the old homestead

I myself am about to go thru the same thing in a year or so. My parents are old and they need assistance so I manage to convince them to move close to me but this will mean they will have to sell the homestead as they live in another country... I used to go visit every other year since I moved to nc in 1997. If they sell that house I am pretty much uproooted... Sad feeling... Dad is trying to postpone the move but if he dont get on with it I might show up there and pull up one of those that the A-Team pulled to B.A Baracus and he will wake up in his new place in NC!

I don't use words like gorgeous very much so 'perfect' will do.

Very nice. Old gardens always have so much character.
