One thing I've noticed about a lot of these type studies.... the result depends on who is funding it and what their agenda is.

Find out who did the funding and that should tell you if it's science or politics.

Go out and buy a small book called "COD" and you will have not only the history of this commercial fish,but also its chances of future survival.
The big problem of commercial fisheries is that nobody actually owns the fish.The result is that nobody protects their property(fish stocks).If we dont protect our fish,they will go the way of the buffalo.
If you think that this is hogwash,you should try and make yourself a mental picture of 50 Norwegian fishing ships each with 5 or 6 thirty mile long nets that catch anything and everything that comes into it?
Can you imagine a net that stretches for 7500 miles?
these are only the Norwegians.Than there are the Spanish,the Japanese,the icelanders and a whole bunch more.

there are less commercial fisherman today than ever do to all the reg's
mother nature has ways of taking care of itself

Exactly xtraham. Mother Nature taking care of things. And that's including global warming and over-grown forests.

Most of the time I would agree with you guys.
And maybe if I did a study on this post I might also.
But "GUT Feeling" on this is that rolmops post should be looked at more closely.
When Asian fish boats put more value on a sharks fins than the body (Money wise) and dump the body back after killing it you must wonder.
That bothers (but doesn't surprize me)

I don't think that this is hogwash at all, we have a very serious man-made problem in the making here. Perhaps, education relating to the consequences of such an ecological disaster, its causes and effect to life on earth as we've known it, is truly understood but ignored.
Perhaps a change in the way of human existence on earth is inevitable.
Maybe the dolphins will one day say " So long and thanks for all the fish".

Fish are a simple game of numbers they can only reproduce so fast

If you harvest to many then the pouplation will decline

its not like it did not take the whales a long AZZ time to build back there numbers
