Bought this one sight unseen, only knowing that it had a wood flywheel handle. Gambled and it paid off. 1914 Ferro Rowboat Motor. Guy was a scrap collector and found it in the back of an old 30's truck he bought. His neighbour called me over when we were done and said he had a few motors too. Not nearly as nice, but the price was right.

The Ferro is extremely rare. Not stuck either!

Wow, that Ferro is almost 100 years old! It isn?t locked up, which is a bonus considering how it must have spent at least some time in it?s life. Do you plan to make it a display motor or will you try to make it a runner? The magneto says Bosch, is it original? The Fleetwin is a 1958. I have the same motor but a Johnson version. That other motor is which, a late 1940s 3.3 horse Evinrude Sportsman? Hopefully you have room to stash them & work on them without riling the wife.

I see that you are in Hamilton, ON. I grew up in Ancaster, and my brother & his family live in Hamilton mountain. Maybe I can see if I can get his 1967 Johnson 3-horse folding weedless off him to add to my collection. I?ll see what the wife says first (maybe a bad idea.) One man?s junk is another man?s treasure.

No, that third motor is actually an early '50's 5hp Sea King. and then the old Merc. Nice find Chris. I love seeing those real oldies show up here at the forums. I like the '58 Fleetwin. I have a Fisherman the same year. I bet they will all be salvageable.

As far as I'm concerned, all motors should run, otherwise they are parts motors.

What you see there is a gear driven magneto and 5 ball Kingston carb. The balls sit in a seat, as aiR is pulled into the carb, the ballss rise off their seat leaning out the mixture allowing you to go faster, that is the crude condensed version of how it works

Nice score!!! The Ferro looks like the engine on the aomci.org. Very, very cool. Congrats!

Hi,

Wow; I guess I live in the wrong part of the country.

That 3rd one...ID'd as a Sea King....I wonder if Sea King in that year perhaps was a re-badged Scott Atwater? I bears a lot of resemblance to one I used to have.

No Sir. Those were built by the Gale division and have been since the Thor plant failed to deliver a good running outboard. So it's been since around 1941 that Sea King was built by Gale and was until '63. I don't believe Sea King was ever by Scott/McCulloch. Sears Elgin was though on some models, as well West Bend/Chrysler.

Nice score on the Ferro! We had one in our collection a few years back - ours was missing the magneto.

The Merc looks like a KF-3. Nice find with the lower cowling! They're usually missing...

Surprisingly all that Im missing is the tiller handle and the brass nameplate on the tank, all being made by a fellow AOMCI member that is a heck of a machinist!

'48 Comet 3.6hp

Im not a Merc guy, so have an ongoing deal with Merc guys in my area that trade me for OMCs when I get a Merc, and visa versa. It works.

Will check compression and get them to good homes if all checks out. The Gale is just a parts motor unfortunately.

You lucky dawg! I think your Merc is a Mark 7 Rocket...be aware the impeller plate behind the prop is reverse thread...you can make a pin wrench to get it off, but soak it in penetrating oil for at least a week first. You can bet the impeller is shot, but it's an easy fix after you get the plate off...and they run like scalded monkeys afterwards.
