thought I'd share a great story to start a weekend of boating

My fuel gauge recently went out, I had noticed condensation building in it and this past weekend it finally failed. My girl and I decided to run North along the Suwanee River from fanning springs to rock bluff springs(aka bobs water park). For those of you that don't know its about a half hour run, if you are hauling@$$.

We made it to the destination and hung out for awhile, around 5pm we decided to head out. We got out to the river and started our ride back, about 5 min. in, after we pasted the bridge and all the people, you guessed it, motor dies.

I go back to the motor and start pumping the ball, no fuel. The FIRST boat to pass us, I promise the FIRST boat, looks at me and questions the OK sign. I give him a "i dunno" maybe not. He turns around.

No gas ever fills my clear fuel filter before the ball. He tells me he knows where to get some gas. I look where he's pointing, he's got a 5 gal sitting on his deck. He asks if its 4 stroke, nope premix. no prob, he's got quicksilver oil to mix it up. I tell him to give me his address so i can send him a check for saving me (at least a 20 right??).

He says he got saved not long ago from some guy who drove him all the way back to his trailer so he could drive it up river to the ramp he was broke down at.

Don't worry, what comes around goes around, he said. You see me or anyone else broke down lend a hand. I certainly will. The best part was that the five gallons lasted right to the boat ramp. I jokingly passed the ramp (had the trolling motor) and the motor started stalling from lack of fuel.

The guy saved my day, it would have taken at least 3-5 hours to float/trolling motor the whole way back, thankfully I was headed back down river, but still.....

Bottom line, Boaters help Boaters. I towed a boat in at the lake recently. I may start bringing some extra fuel along!!

Before anyone comments, we filled it up and took a SHORT ride around the lake the previous weekend. Takes 20 gall to fill, so I believe someone may have siphoned some fuel out of the take during the week. I really hope they put it in their car.......

Glad that someone was thier to help you when you needed it. I aslo like the pay it forward attitude!

Anyway, don't look over the fact that you could have just burnt more fuel this time than the time you are comparing it too. I know my boat can burn almost double when i am in rough water fighting tide and wind compared to cruising around on smooth water!

I'm out of Gainesville, I've got a small flats boat that we can take to ginnie and go out to cedar key and handle some rougher waters. We've been checking out all the bodies of water within 2 hours of G-ville. Went to itchnitucnee and sante fe a little while ago and it was really nice there.

We did return down river so I'm sure that helped with the mileage ;)
