I am seriously thinking about purchasing a Saturn SD365 inflatable with a 18HP Tohatsu 4-stroke O/B. I would really appreciate any thoughts regarding the boat and/or motor from anyone who owns one.

Is the quality of the Saturn on par with similar offerings from Zodiac, Avon, etc?

Will the 18HP 4-stroke Tohatsu allow the boat to easily plane with 2 average-size adults & basic fishing gear?

Thank you. I really appreciate your help.

I believe those are PVC boats so, no. They aren't on par with Zodiac, Avon, or Achilles Hypalon boats durability wise. An 18hp motor should plane that boat easily with the load you describe.

Yes, it is PVC. However, it is my understanding that Zodiac also uses PVC on many of the boats in its recreational line.

All inflatable boat builders use PVC these days, as it is cheaper and more durable and more UV resistant, but hypalon is still the best, but it is heavy and expensive ...... the saturn is not a bad boat, and the 18hp tohatsu will do fine .... although the max rating for hp is 30hp on that boat .... it is ideal to rather have the max hp on a inflatable for optimum performance .....

I just backordered one. I'll let you know how it does when it comes in.

Did really well with the 25 hp. It wasn't overpowered. The water pressure made the throtttle extremely hard to turn at speed. The boat floor felt harder at speed, so I ran mine at full throttle, when I could keep it running. I don't think I would want any less power, although I don't know if mine puts out 25 hp by modern standards, though. I guess a mid to late 80's 15 puts out as much as mine. I'm going to take it back to the shop. Hopefully it will stay fixed this time.
