My wife just told me that she plans on taking me there for my birthday this summer to catfish, specifically the Santee area by the national forest.

Does anyone know a decent guide down there or maybe a really good place to stay on the lake.

She found a guide but it is $300 for 8 hours which is fine but I would almost rather have 2 half days.

Any info is more than what I have know, thanks

Check out the In-Fisherman site for guide info there.

2 half day trips during peak hours would be better.

You may also want to look at a 1/2 days Striper trip, they have some huge ones there. They also have some huge Sunfish, Bluegill and Redear.

This guy is supposedly the best:Santee With Roundhill

This is a good place to stay with water access and they have guides too:Welcome to Blacks Camp -
They aren't really on the lake so you don't have much of a view but they are back off the canal so if you take a boat you can have it there and not have to worry about rough water. There are some others on the canal too and I know one on lake marion, but I don't know of any on Moultrie. If you look on Google Maps you can find them.

Pretty much all of the guides are going to charge the same rates down there.

I don't think they do much guiding for striper there anymore. The population in the santee cooper system is almost nothing compared to what it once was, plus I'm pretty sure that in the summer you're not supposed to be fishing for them and you have to release them immediately. The stripers migrate from the lakes up into the river during the summer anyway so there really aren't any in the lakes in the summer anyhow. I think most of the striper fishing in Lake Moultrie is done in the winter.

Linwood Thornhill Guide Service, usually fishes out of Black's camp on the connector canal. Black's has adequate rooms, which to say is not the Holiday Inn. But neither is the cost. The restaurant is pretty good, too, as are the folks that run the operation. If you're looking for peace and quiet, make sure there are no bass tournaments there when you want to go ...
