Santa brought me Smart Tabs.

Merry Christmas to all, l put this under the OMC section because that’s what they are going on. I am going to install these on my 16’ Peterbough bow rider 120 OMC, 400 sterndrive. My question would be should I be taking these doel fins off. I know this subject has had the crap knocked out of it, I was planning on leaving it on and trying it with both as it has been suggested in numerous threads. The only difference is my 400 sterndrive has a 800 lower end( 15 spline prop shaft). Can I still try the Smart Tabs and doel fins together. Thanks in advance for your time. Cheers, Mark.

Doel fin creates drag, smart tabs create drag. Most fins are added to increase lift, and smart tabs will do the same. Boat doesn't need more drag, one needs to go

Thanks alldodge , the tabs are to help the port side list so I’ll toss the fins.

2Xs with AD on removing the Doel tabs. I had a customer who broke one side of the cavitation plate when he went over a large wave.

Definetly food for thought thanks Kenny. Other than drag it doesn’t sound like it will harm anything so I think I’ll take a run with it still on and see what happens. If it is really noticeable I can remove it.

I’m not familiar with the boat or it’s make (being from the U.K.). But she looks similar to a lovely century boat that used to be in my marina years ago. Also has the look of some classic crestliner I’ve seen too. Lovely classic lines for sure.

Cheers QBhoy, I really like it, completely stripped out the inside(water and oil soaked foam, new floor and stringers) and still got half the summer in. Just did a carb rebuild and cleaned a filter full of sand out so looking forward to spring.

Excellent work ! What’s powering her ? 4.3 OMC GM ? Lovely to see boats like this getting cared for and used. Keep up the good work

120 OMC 2.5 chev. and it seems to be plenty for me. Fishing and diving Lake Huron. Got it last winter for $500 and have about $1500 into it. Haha so far. I know the list continues.

I wouldnt run both the fin and the tabs but i have had nice results on a previous boat with the fin. Nice improvement in holeshot for $35 On ‘91 Sea Ray 170/3.0. when you are 250 lbs and depending on a 3.0 to drag you up skiing they helped. Are there better options now sure, but were talking about a stringer drive here, run what you brung…

I was told the Muskoka area, I kept it at Kettle Point last summer. In an earlier thread someone pointed out that the registration numbers were from the Muslim’s area I picked it up last winter in Hamilton. Cheers.

That makes sense cause a friend of a friend of another friend told me about it on a guys land and he wanted $500 to see it gone and he was from around that area.
