So this weekend we went to our Local St. Marys lake and experienced 2-3 ft white caps which was a little surprising seeing that it was only 10-15 mph winds and this is quiet normal in our area. Was looking at other lake options near by and was wondering how Sandusky Bay was just for recreational purposes or if it was even worth the visit? If so any ramps to stay away from and ones that would be good to put in at. Any advise would be helpful.

I have boated a lot on Sandusky bay, I have used a rowboat with 9hp Johnson, 13 foot whaler and a 19 foot wellcraft. Depending on the weather 2 foot waves are about norm you would experience on the bay. It is also double the size of St Mary. Dempsey public boat ramp is probably my favorite to use. There is also a sandbar near by to anchor up to

Grand Lake (St Mary's) in Ohio is 16 miles long from east to west. IF you have a strong east wind, don't hang out on the west side of the lake. Vice versa, if you have a strong west wind, don't sit on the east side of the lake.

If you do, you have 16 miles of fetch for waves to build.
