Hi, I am currently installing a remanned merc 4.3 and the intake being used is off the old engine. There is a lot of surface rust in the cooling channels and i was wondering if it would be ok to sandblast it clean. I dont know if there is a coating that is supposed to be applied afterwards (to prevent bare metal against the raw water).

Thanks,
Brian

Re: Sandblast Intake. Coating required?

Ayuh,... Cast Iron produces a Rust Patina that protects the base metal,...
Unless it's Thick,+ Flakey,... Leave it Alone.....
If it IS thick,+ flakey,... Replace the Manifold...

No coatings required or recommended....
It'll just end up downstream somewhere gumming things up...
