Same battery: Trolling motor and fish finder?

Hello all...
Converting my I/O open bow to allow for a more fishing friendly boat.

I cut 1/2" sheet of plywood using the bow cushions as a template and have covered with outdoor carpet and pre-drilled holes for the fish-finder. The battery for trolling motor fits perfectly inside one of the storage spaces under the "seat".

My question is, with the trolling motor on the bow, is it okay/good idea to also have the fish-finder wired to the same battery or should I run it all the way to the engine battery? Obviously I would be using the 2 devices at the same time.

The fish-finder's transducer operates at 200 kHz w/ 800 watts peak (not sure of amps (has 3 amp fuse though)). Troller is 50lb thrust w/ max draw of 40 amps.

Thanks in advance...

Sooner or later, I'll start sounding like I know what I'm talking about... :D

Not a problem. This will also isolate your starting motor from any problems that might leave you stranded.

It don't really matter..the only concern is that some sonars don't like the electricle noise the the trolling motor might generate...test to check out...

If you get interference, You can put a noise filter in the power line. You can get one at Radio Shack, they are used on car steroe installations.

Nomad
I would suggest you put your trolling battery near the stern and then wire up your trolling motor. Reason is vibration is a big killer of batteries and have much less pounding and vibration in the stern. If your trolling motor battery is 12 volts you can hook up fishfinder there but may not work late in the day as battery voltage drops off.

I have 2 depth finders on my boat.

1 at the bow and 1 at the stern.

The one at the bow has the transducer mounted on the trolling motor with no problems.

It is wired up to the 12v side of the 12-24v trolling motor plug with no interference.
