Salt water acceptance test

Hi all!
I just purchased a new Sea Ray 175 Sport. The boat will be used in a freshwater lake only.
The dealer is on the ocean and will be performing an acceptance test with us
in the salt water . Then they will flush the motor and wash the entire boat right after the test.

My question is, even though they will flush and clean, could there be any long term issues from being in salt water this one time?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Simple answer, no. I boat in salt water all the time, last boat for 17 years, run and flush when I take it out, it would be in salt water on the weekends and on the trailer the rest of the time, I had no problems, did not have to change the manifold and riser until about 14 years old. Don't worry about it, it will not hurt it.

I am not going to argue, just state that years ago I lived near the Gulf of Mexico. I had saltwater stuff and freshwater stuff. I won't say that SW hurt things all that much, just that I knew they had been exposed.

If you are buying a trailer also, I would rather not dunk it. If the guy has a lift I'd have him hoist it in and out. Trailers just have a way of hating salt, even when galvanized.

Mez, A few time launching in the lake and running the motor will wash away all the salt on the boat, trailer and motor. You might hose off the engine block to make sure that is salt free. No water into the carbs, right?

Any salt water is worse than no salt water. OK, so it might not hurt it just one time, but if I were buying it...... Hey, it's your money that's being layed down.

Agree about the trailer. If you can take it by a freshwater lake on the way home and dunk it, it would help.

the problem is, when you go to sell it can you honestly say it's a freshwater boat.

Thanks for all the input. I'll make sure it is flushed and cleaned. It will be in our lake in CT an hour after the ocean test.

I sure wouldn't worry about it...but if it bothers you, and you are only an hour away, why not do the test in your lake?

The dealer will only do the test in waters they are familiar with.

Anyways, from the input here and from friends that have boats, doesn't seem to be anything to worry about.

thanks
