Bought 1997 Volvo Penta SX I/O - 4-5 months/year inwater in Florida - reported mostly regular hauling, cleaning and freshwater flushing.

Boat will move to all freshwater till it dies - hopefully 15 years or more! Similar past experience rusted exhaust risers closed 3 years later and almost caused a fire!

What do I do to find/repair/counteract the effect/damage of those saltwater years?
- replace pump impeller?
- flush with some kind of cleaner?
- replace trim hoses?

HELP PLEASE!

The salt is in there Now... It'll Never be Totally Flushed Out.... Cast Iron is a Very Porous Metal....
Just replace the salt eaten parts.... a new waterpump is Always a good idea....
Just Running it in freshwater is the Best Flush there Is....
You should get your 10 or 15 years before the Block Rusts out....

I seem to recall hearing that you have to use a different sacrifical anode (zinc for salt, magnesium for fresh). I'd call Volvo to check.

Re: salt to fresh

I doubt the anodes were ever even considered. The boat was bought new in Pittsburgh!
When the outdrive is off for inspection and pump impeller job, should all the flex boots be replaced as well?
