Hi everyone,

The following is a sample of downrigger footage we have taken during this salmon season on Lake Ontario. Most of the footage was shot down 80 to 110 feet which challenges the smaller sensor camera but we're happy with some of the results.

Hope you enjoy!

Alan

Thanks Jlawsen, glad you enjoyed it!

NGT and I were talking about it yesterday and wishing we could see what the Steelies were doing when they were hitting our rigs. We were curious about the camera you were using. Are you willing to share that info? Thanks.

Quality production! I might even pay to see that in a movie theater :D Put it on the Imax screen though. Nice choice of backround music too, raises the excitment level while waiting for the fish to strike.

Cool the way the way the camera catches it all. *I like the way you can see right away if the fish does not like your lure or its color. *He comes right up to it rejects it and then swims away.

I fish with a down rigger on Lake George in upstate NY for Lakers and in the summer they reside 100-150 feet down. When cameras came on the scene I used to think "come on, give the poor fish a fighting chance" But I can see where they are really useful now. Why troll a lure around for hours on end when the camera sees right away that you need to change your offering.

Please post more vids here when you record them!

Thanks for the comments everyone! Jlawson, we're just using GoPro 2's with a healthy dose of editing to clean up the image due to the lack of light at depth. Also, they are set'em and forget'em (no live view) so we don't benefit from the footage until we watch it at home later - but we're much wiser the next time out. Or the time after that ....

Thanks, the GoPro Hero 2 is what's in my budget. I read where they have a wi-fi remote and in the fall an app will interface the video with your smart phone and I think it's wi-fi. It would have to be on a very low frequency (vlf) to penetrate the water so I don't think it will work at 50'. I'd probaby have to buy it and try though.

We're using anywhere up to 8 of the wifi remotes at a time now and they work very well - above water. The best option for below the surface is to get the extended battery pack and just leave the camera running for hours. Don't forget an anti-fog solution as well (GoPro makes strips that fit inside the housing).

Good info, thank you. When I'm ready I'll be sure to get the extended battery pack and anti-fog solution.
