Anyone have any experience with the Sailrite sewing machines? I’ve been using a 1950’s Singer for the last 10yrs and it’s done a lot of upholstery work. It’s time to upgrade to a portable mini walking foot machine.

I see Sailrite has a straight stitch machine and one that can also sew zig zag. How often is the zig zag used? Only thing I can foresee using the zig zag on would be a bimini top maybe?

Im open to other suggestions on portable walking foot machines.

Hey @tpenfield any comment?
Sure . . .

@Jmunk - For occasional work the Sailrite LS machines are OK IMO. Not great, but OK. They are not a needle feed machine, just a walking foot, so top-stitching can be a problem when sewing through multiple layers of fabric. It sort of depends on what Singer model you have. I believe the 111 and the 211 were the machines with compound feed (Needle & Foot)

The Sailrites are noisy as compared to the industrial class machines.

I don't think you will need zig-zag unless you are going to make hoodies and sweat pants.

When I started doing boat upholstery and canvas, I got a used Consew 206RB-4. It has been with me since (5 years).

Thanks for the information. Maybe I just need to dedicate some space for sewing and get a better machine. Very helpful.

I have seen several different brands that look similar to the Sailrites.

My Singer is a model 99k, it been a trooper and done way more then I ever expected.
