SailFish / SunFish

I'd like to acquire something on the order of a Sailfish or a Sunfish. I can't seem to find any recent information on these.<br /><br />Are they still being made? If not, is there anything comparable on the market? <br /><br />Thanks ...

While it's been a few decades since the Sailfish has been manufactured, the Sunfish still is.<br /><br />The Sailfish was a smaller version of the Sunfish without a footwell... the Super Sailfish had the same hull dimensions (length/beam) and sail area as a Sunfish, but again, it had no footwell.<br /><br />Though the Sunfish is somewhat dated by comparison to today’s popular rotomolded plastic small sail boats, it remains a classic, and is still considered by many to be the ultimate craft for learning to sail due to it's simplicity. Additionally, many fleets still race, as they always have since its introduction in the late 1950's as an affordable car topper. It literally introduced millions to affordable sailing.<br /><br />Today, Sunfish are manufactured by Vanguard Boats... visit them at: www.teamvanguard.com <br /><br />Vanguard manufactures many other one-designs, including the popular (and also somewhat dated) Laser. They tend to be more expensive than Sunfish, either new or used, but are a faster, yet less stable boat.<br /><br />I recommend Sunfish. While I sail on larger craft now, I still love those little boats as they created many memories... and still do every now and again (I keep a 1982 hull and rig hung in the garage for whenever I feel the need to get wet). You can buy a used one for around $500-$700 in decent condition, sometimes including a trailer. Good Luck.

I have been looking for small boats to and we are tring to get a Vanguard Laser its a nice boat LOA:13'10", Beam:4'6", Draft:2'7", Sail area:76 sq ft, Hull weight:130 pounds. 1 sail, new $4,315.
