I finally bit the bullet and bought a new trim cylinder (since a seal kit isn't available) for my Duo Prop 290 outdrive.
The duo prop is the older Swedish built model where the trim cylinders are "inside" versus "outside". I don't have a manual but the procedure looks fairly straight forward. However, I have a couple of safety questions:
1. I'll be working with the drive unit tilted up. The port trim cylinder/ram is okay and I won't be working on it. I will be replacing the starboard unit. Should I use a block of wood or something to keep the drive tilted up? Any chance of it falling?
2. Will the cylinder I am replacing have any pressure on it? I am replacing the whole cylinder and it has several hydraulic lines coming in. When I am loosening the lines will fluid shoot out under pressure? Also, will removing the cylinder cause a loss of pressure to the other ram holding the drive unit up?
3. Without a manual I am working under the assumption that I just remove and replace the old unit. Am I missing anything?
Thanks!
