Re: Sad story on my local lake.

Article says they were swimming by a boat ramp in the evening when a large boat came by and knocked them underwater. Sheriff said it was an accident, didn't say anything about the boat. Does it say somewhere else how fast was the boat going?

Maybe it's not a real good idea to swim near a boat ramp when it's getting dark (or anytime) and boats are coming in off the water ....

That is why most boat launches have signs that say "NO SWIMMING". At first glance, it does not appear that the boater did anything wrong. In my opinion, the people that they should prosecute have already paid the ultimate penalty. Sorry that they had to learn the really hard way.

Re: Sad story on my local lake.

Ugh, this one hits me close to home after last weekend. I was launching and barely at idle coming from the boat ramp and still inside the "no wake" buoys when this jerk in a hi-powered fishing boat came hauling butt past the buoys, and didn't throttle back until he was almost at the dock. I could not believe how far he went at high power, without honoring the "no wake" zone. At the time I wish I could have done something to jerk a knot in his head...but at least people didn't die. This time.

I expected this to be about boone lake. My son, a bunch of my friends and their families, and myself were there having a cookout at the swimming area, about 15 minutes after we left for the day, a 14 year old girl was found unconcious.

That's so needless & sad when it could have been prevented if precautions were taken
