Just pulled my beloved 50 horse ;'81 Evinrude off the boat, getting ready for a repower.

Been with me for 15 years but it is time to move on.

Been a great motor, starts runs and idles like a champ but can't see dropping $1800 on a new lower for an engine that old.

Got the price on the new motor, F50 Yamaha 4 stroke, turns out cost is still a huge number, I was really surprised but given retail is $8200 I will gladly take it.

I work for a boat company and can get things at cost thankfully.

Down to the nasty part of derigging, under the dash and getting binnacle out, real pain the way my boat is set up.

Well off to the shop to morn some more....

I would have gotten a used lower

After you have had some running time with you're new Yami I'm quite sure you will be a happy camper and know you made the right decision.

I still run motors older than yours (on classic boats that need to be that way for the classic boat show), but my daily goto is a fuel injected 4-stroke.

Today was happy day, got all the stuff ordered for the new engine.

Just getting all the stuff to make it run was about debilitating, throttle, control cables, tach, tach harness on and on.

Even at cost it is a very large number.

And I know, I battled with myself for a good bit on fiixxing the old one but I am really worried as soon as I drop that kind of money in her she will detonate the power head.

Right before she broke I bought 12 gallons of gas and a gallon of oil too, the mower doesn't seem to mind eating premix....

May run for 10 more years but I am not gonna find out.

Getting her up on craigs list soon to help someone else out,has to be someone that needs a good power head.

Spent memorial day weekend rigging the boat, turns out you need to stare at a dash for a long time before drilling a 3 1/4'' hole, had to make another for the hour meter and key switch but it all worked out and I like the lay out.

Engine dropped Thursday, kind of literally, upon inspection there is a 3'' long rip in the front of the cowl where it was set down on something, new one already on the way but still.

Got it hung and rigged Sat morning and hit the water yesterday, first hour kind of a drag, 2000 rpm limit, second was a little better but I wanted to break it in by the book.

I may be the one person ever in history to guess a prop right the first time, 5800 rpm, I was really surprised.

Kept the box cause I was sure I would be selling that one and getting the right one.

Old engine ran 28 mph on the river with the current, new engine went 27.5 on a lake with light chop and a tail wind so the 50 extra pounds doesn't seem to matter to much.

Boat may sit 1/8'' lower in the water but not really noticeable.

Love it, turn the key and it goes, no more timingadvancechokekey dance for me.
