Just got home from an accident that happened very early this morning ... Called out around 2am. 1 dead, 2 injured. Be careful on the water ... Not sure what happened, will need to wait for toxicology and the investigation, but higher speed at night ... The one dead was the only one with a PDF on ... Trapped in the cabin. Took till almost 6 PM to recover the body ...

Art...thank you for the work that you do. This weekend as well as many other holiday weekends folks just do not seem to use the best judgement out there called common sense. Prayers for the family.

Sometimes people leave their common sense in their tow vehicle, or back wherever home is..... Rough nite, Art. Prayers to the families and all the rescue personnel......

Yes, Thank you Art for the work you do!

May I ask exactly what it is you do, obviously some form of emergency response?

Unfortunately, it's not just holiday weekends that people get stupid!

Yes, does seem that a lot of people leave their common sense in their tow vehicle!!

Always sad to hear when fun went horribly wrong!

May this be the worst the weekend has to offer.

That is sad. We had one out here in Nashville like that last year - someone getting trapped in the cabin as boat went down. It's gotta' be worse on scene.

What don't I do might be easier to answer .... I am a volunteer firefighter and first responder, as well as Chaplain for my department. I am also a pastor. I am the administrator and President of a Biblical and Vocational Training Center in Ghana, West Africa. I dabble in car sales ... And the list goes on ...

Hey Art, as a chaplain for the fire department, do you support the firefighters only or both them and the victims? (officially - I'm sure you do all you can) I'm technically in the Chaplain Corps for CAP (though I don't have the actual title "chaplain"), and like to hear how other organizations work.

I don't envy you for some of the surely terrible things you must see and deal with, but I surely do respect and appreciate you and others like you for what you do! Thanks again

I am currently working within the department to make some significant changes. Before I came to the Department the Chaplain position was strictly an Invocation/Benediction office for meetings. I have put in place more stringent guidelines for Chaplains and began doing more to take care of our own in a small way and also the victims we deal with and their families. Now we are about to make a larger leap to the position, if it passes election, being a line office instead of an Administration office. I will, then have power to over ride the OIC if the emotional, Physical, or spiritual health of a firefighter is in question. I will also be the one to notify the Red Cross or other agencies that are needed for the victims. I am now able to minister to the victims and their families directly, under the auspices of the Fire Department. So, yes, in the past year I have been working on radical changes, and once completely implemented, may become a resource that other Fire Departments in our area will call upon.

Bubba, thanks, and yes, especially when Kids are involved. But then, I am there on their Worst Day, and If I can give them some hope and help, well, it is worth it. It is those days that I am so glad I have a very understanding wife and kids. Makes sense why I leave the dinner table for someone I don't know and might never see again...

Accidents like these are why people need to be going slow at night. Have many people including some on here that think its OK to go 30 MPH at night.
