It all depends.

Some outboards and i/o's takes special washers when used with aftermarket props.

You did not tell anything about your setup.

Notice the first two lines on the forum page:
Attention All Engines and Motors Posters: Please post as much info about your engine as possible when you post questions, i.e. manufacturer, make, model number, horsepower, year, etc. Our forum members/experts need this info to help you.

Also check this post http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=009035

Re: s.s. michigan prop thrust washer

the motor is a 95 115 hp merc. i have the stock prop on the boat. i found a s.s. michagin prop, same pitch as stock, the stock thrust washer is steel, i found another thrust washer that is brass. i have the correct outer washer for s.s. prop. what i was asking is do i use the stock THRUST washer with the michagin s.s. prop or the stock thrust washer thats on it right now. do michagan s.s. props require a different type of thrust washer than the factory one

Re: s.s. michigan prop thrust washer

Your motor was delivered with one of several possible standard aluminum props. Many came with the 13x19 3 blade 48-77346A40 (recommended use for boat gross weight 1700-2700 lbs./ 16'-19' giving approx speed 36-43 mph). According to Michigan catalogue, they make more ss. props for your motor. Some of these are 'standard replacements' and as such use the standard thrust hub (131191A1). Your WOT rpm range is 4750-5250 so if you are within this range at flat out your pitch is right.

If you remove the prop and check the washers against the props and the housing, you should be able to decide. Also slide the prop on and check by hand if it sits and turn freely.

If you call Michigan with the actual prop and washer number / dimensions, they should be able to leave a clear answer.
