A few question regarding the S.L.O.W mode that is only supposed to come on if the engine overheats....

What else apart from overheat sensor can cause the engine to go into S.L.O.W mode ?

When the engine went into this slow mode ,it was not Hot,i would say not even warm realy.
The water flow is very good ,no engine or waterway blockages at all, plenty of water comming from
tell tale and from exhaust ports.

Now im wondering if the quick start could possibly come in and that put engine into this mode due to
being too cold ???????
i realy dont know much about the quick start and slow mode stuff.

I am gonna try the engine again tommorow weather permitting, maybe have engine running in water butt for
an hour or so.

If the engine goes into this again can i just disconnect the temp alarm wire and if so what do i have to do to
get it back into normal mode ????

is there any other reason or thing that can cause this S.L.O.W mode to just come into play. ?

could it be a faulty powerpack ?
i do have a spare power pack to try but dont want to be just swapping things around if this cannot be at fault.
Could it be anything to do with a bad regulator rectifier ?
i ask this as im not getting anything from rev counter ,but rev counter could be a bad one
(im trying to locate a 100% definite good one at the moment).

can it be anything to do with other electrical things like stator etc.

ive had some very help from a few guys on here with my alarm buzzer wiring and have now sorted that out
so if alarm goes off i know its a bad temp sender for sure.

I will be an using a independant using a independant temperature meter to check the head heat.
what is considered normal temperature at idle ?
and at wide open throttle ?

Are you getting an alarm? I don't remember the 3 cylinder OMC engines being equipped with SLOW. Only v4 and v6 engines

Yes the 3 cylinder models had it as well, and so did some 2 cylinder models as well.

the alarm wasnt working due to no wire going to buzzer, thats why i said if it goes off ill know its a bad sensor.
as the engine is not hot enough to truly trigger the alarm.

i want to know what else can trigger it.

the vro cannot trigger it due to diode blocking plus mine is disconnected from the dreaded VRO anyway.

All that can trigger SLOW mode (or that is supposed to be able to trigger slow mode) is the thermal switch in the head, which will ground the brown (if I remember correctly) wire to the power pack. Yes, it could possibly be a faulty power pack. It could also be a faulty thermal switch.

If you're absolutely positively certain that the temperature is ok you could temporarily disconnect the aforementioned brown wire from the thermal switch to see if it still goes into SLOW.

I'm not sure if the rectifier/regulator could cause this, but it will certainly keep the battery from charging and it will certainly prevent your tach from working.

I'm going by my engines which I have manuals for, I'm guessing yours should be close - at idle after warming up the head temp should be in the 140 - 150 deg F range, and at higher rpm's it should drop to the 125 deg F range.

Disconnect pack from sender to eliminate pack problem, if problem quits you know its a sender.
