rx4 150

i have a rx4 150 blackmax motor runs and ideals good untill i go to plane it out. it spits and sputters and then dies. if i take the cowling off the motor and run it the problem goes away. dont understand what is going on anyone know why?

it would seem the cowling is pinching a fuel line or affecting an already loose connection might be tough to locate good luck

Or you have either exhaust or water escaping under the cowl and getting ingested by the engine.

All great ideas... my thought is very simple. My 175 has a history of dripping fuel from the carbs into the front cover. (Hopefully fixed when I finish the carbs rebuild this week). Check the air cover that is separate from the cowl. It may have a large amount of oil in the foam air filter (if Merc still does that) the oil would restrict air flow with the cowl installed. No cowl and front cover, plenty of air.

It's probably an XR4, not an RX4.

Oh well, dyslexics are teeple poo.:D
