i have an OMC 3.0 Motor in an ebbtide montego and i want to adjust the ignition with a timing light, but the timing plate that normally shows the TopDeadCenter is so rusty that the timing mark can not be seen any more. I have an omc repair manual but the timing plate is not shown in that detail that i could restore the position. If someone can tell me the position ( there are teeth on it) or an image of the timing plate with the marks on it would be very helpful and i would be very happy if somebody has it or could make it.

My OMC V8 has a sort of saw tooth marker with a bigger (Deeper) tooth for the TDC position. Then each point, in or out, is 2 degrees. I have about 6 teeth BTDC and 2 ATDC. The harmonic damper has a simple line across it coincident with #1 TDC. Hope this helps

many thanks for your infos, but unfortunately the 6 teeth on my timing plate are all equal sized. Otherwise it would have been obvious. But it is interesting that the TDC is not in the middle of your plate. Up to now i assumed this and adjusted the ignition accordingly.

Michael
