I have purchased a boat with a painted Shorelandr trailer. The trailer has been used in salt water and the lug nuts have flaky rust on them.
Does anyone know the best way to get them off?
I planned on just soaking them down real good with Liquid Wrench, driving the tightest socket I can get on them and trying to break them loose.
Any other suggestions?

CD,

You have one big rust bucket there, :) I just finished posting about your trailer.

Put some penatrating oil on the nuts and studs leave overnight and take a T bar (or inpact wrench if you have one) and break the rusted seal.

An impact wrench would work best because the vibration of the wrench will break right through that rust. Take it to a gas station and ask them to back them off unless you have a buddy with an air wrench.

I would replace the studs and nuts its not hard. Trailer wheels are nothing to take chances with. I had a wheel come off a pop-up camper and it's no fun. It happened even though I played by all the rules, If you can't do it yourself it's not expensive to have done.

Whoever puts the nuts back on make sure they use a torque wrench and tighten to 95 foot pounds.

Lug nuts are extremely important to check frequently if you don't have a torque wrench buy one. You will need it for many motor repaires anyway.

Good luck ;)

A flame wrench will make it easy to get the lugs nuts off as well.

In the future consider using antiseize prior to reinstall.

Another option is to go with stainless parts (studs and lug nuts). You can get these from http://www.championtrailers.com
