rust in trailer

My trailer has slowly been rusting away. the previous owner used it in salt water and it isn't galvanized. I spray some anti-rust product on it from time to time. The front beams on the trailer have some holes now. I'm wondering if there is a process to wrap material or to reinforce or strengthen an obviously weak area. There isn't that much weight on the front of the trailer, so that is why it probably hasn't already snaped. Any ideas other than a new used trailer?

I realize you want ideas other than getting a new trailer................but I dont have any.

When you start thinking of the amount of Force acting on a trailer when you are turning or stopping, it becomes obvious than any significantly weakened spot is going to break sooner or later. You said yourself
That pretty much right there answers the question for yourself. While it may be possible to reinforce it or cut out the rusted areas and reinforce it with some new metal............it probably isnt worth the effort. What size boat are you towing. I know that the local trailer dealer here has trailers for 12 to 14fters for $440(galvanized). Not a bad investment when you cosider a properly maintained trailer will last 30+ years. Used trailers are generally not a great way to go unless you get lucky......people get rid of them for a reason.

Re: rust in trailer

used trailers are like anything else used. buyer beware. i've been lucky to find good trailers. some i've found with bad boats on them. one of the best was a galvinized 18' gator trailer, bad boat, $150.00 just needed bearings. stopped at the county dump on the way home.
