So my brother and I are sorting through a bunch of possible antique lures left to him by his father-in-law, and included are a couple of Russelures. But they're not antiques at all: they're still made in Chico, CA. http://russelure.com/

Looks like they come in various sizes, from small trout to salmon. Of course, I couldn't resist, so I ordered a couple of the larger size. Sort of a metal version of Kwikfish (not floating, of course), in dull anodized colors (ready for 'customization'). Good workmanship, and they look labor-intensive, what with all the various ring attachments.

I've lobbed a couple behind the boat, but oddly enough, contrary to the maker's website, I didn't see fish lined up waiting to chomp down. Gee...go figure....

Any of you guys in California ever use these? Is this one of those local secrets you're keeping from the rest of us?!! Or is this another cruel, California joke!

Incidentally, we did find several nice, old Heddon Lucky 13s.

Re: Russelure from CA

Who knows? What occurs to me is that pretty much every lure I've ever used has had a learning curve. How fast to retrieve? What retrieve pattern? I can't remember a lure I've ever used for the first time that immediately caught fish.

I'm of the opinion that you can catch fish on pretty much any lure if you present it properly, and that's not something you just automatically know.

Plus, on any given day, the fish may respond to a particular lure or presentation, while the next day you can do the same thing and catch nothing.

That's why I have only a very few lure types I use. I have those few in multiple colors and weights. They're the ones I've learned to use and that seem to work very well. Some days one works, other days another one does.

Fishing...what a sport.

What makes me sad is that some of my favorites are no longer made. Thank heaven for eBay.
