Hi everyone, I am a newbie and have a question regarding my 5hp suzuki. Like the subject heading says, It runs fine for a little bit then dies. After I while (time includes letting it sit and pumping the fuel bubble and whatever other tinkering I feel that helps) it will start again and run for a little while. As I'm moving, I can feel and hear it dying out.
JIMD replied that:
"More than likely its a fuel problem, since it seems to run in short spurts.
1. Check that you have plenty of fresh gas and oil (50:1) mix.
2. Check tank vent is open and functioning.
3. When engine starts to quit try pumping the fuel bulb. If that helps your fuel pump is suspect for a rebuild.
4. When engine starts to quit try choking it. If that helps your carb is probably gummed up and needs a rebuild."
---Can anyone please confirm this or perhaps add something new if you've had the problem and had it solved? Thank you very much! TOm

looks like excellent advice. You should try it out and see if it helps diagnose the problem.

It's possible that your exhaust is blocked. Is exhaust and exhaust water exiting freely where it is supposed to?

If engine was allowed to set up with old fuel for some period of time (90 days in hot weather, longer in cool weather) you may have a build up of crud from gas-oil mixture and crud will come loose from time to time. Repair is to dump all fuel, and use a cleaner in fuel system. You may need to let it sit for several days, then work it through the system. In very bad case, you may need to remover and replace some fuel components like fuel lines.
