I have a 1995 mercury sportjet 90hp which is an 85 hp 3 cylinder force with mercury ignition. It runs great and will run as long as you want. But when you try to restart there is no spark. Let it sit for an hour or so and again will run the take out of gas if you want but shut off and again no spark. Its has me baffled. I believe the voltage regulator may be the issue but don't want to change parts. Anyone had a similar issue?

Here is the service manual for the 1995 Sport Jet 90 and 120. There is a troubleshooting guide in it as well.

Thanks for the replies. I read the cdi guide. For no spark on any cylinder; The second thing to check after disconnecting the black/yellow stop wire is to disconnect the 2 yellow wires going to the voltage regulator from stator. I will try in the morning. I hope that's it. I will update for future reference.

At shutoff , the residual heat could expand metal just enough to cause a short. After cool down contracting enought to repeat.
