Hi there, just joined the forum, looking for some help with a boat i have just purchased. yesterday i purchased a 14ft Fletcher gto with a 60hp evinrude 2stroke oil injected, year is not exzact but we think boats 1989, and engine slighty newer. Put her in the water today and engine wont idle, runs fine once in gear and moving at fast walking pase and flat out, but when close to idleing and sitting at idle the engine splutters and cuts out, also the revs seem to go up and down of its own accord... its had new plugs, new impellor, new gearbox oil, fresh fuel and oil. any ideas???took the first carb off and all was good no dirt in sight, might have to take other two off but thought id see what everyone else thinks.

secondly wondering if someone can tell me what this switch is for on my engine, the guy i brought it off reckons it for winterizing it but didnt say much else:(... where my finger is pointing is where the switch is..

also iv read on here somewhere that it is possible to run the engine with out the separate oil tank and run it straight from a fuel tank premixed... anyone help me out?? thanks

and what is this empty hole for in the gearbox drive thing?? very techical term there i used.

Re: running problem

The "switch" you are pointing at is actually the choke solenoid. The red lever is supposed to be pointed back over the solenoid, 90 degrees up, to be in the automatic position. That could be part of your problem, move it up and see how it runs.
The empty spot in your control box is for warning horn, if it is gone you should think about replacing it, see #4 below.

Re: running problem

Hi Im new to this forum but found that i too have the same issue with the exact same motor. as long as i manual move that red lever back and for from 180 back to 90 degrees the motor will run but as soon as I stop "working" that lever the engine will die the carbs are clean ,new power pack wires and plugs all new lines, bulb, connectors and filter. using prmixed fuel from a new tank and the mod was done before I owned so not sure if the change over was done correctly. thx for any input. and oh yes i can hear a click when ingaging the the ignition switch.
