running out of fuel....

Starts and idles fine, runs at 1/2 throttle fine. At WOT, it runs out of fuel after a 200 yard or so run. If I keep pumping the primer bulb in the fuel line it does fine. Reckon it is the bulb? Or maybe fuel pump diaphragm? Thanks, BG12

Tank venting or fuel pump starting to fail in my opinion.

be more specific on the tank venting please. My cap is vented, and i have the vent open, because otherwise, when it gets hot it swells up like a basketball. Do i need to have the vent closed while running, and open when stored?

You have a small portable tank with a vent in the cap? When running it should be loose allowing air in to replace the fuel leaving (keeping a vacuum from forming).

vent has to be open when running, store in the shade. it sounds like either a fuel pump failing, or the carb float needle sticking closed. disconnect fuel line at carb, turn motor over and see if the fuel spurts out. if it does, look at carb float needle. new carb kits, have a small spring, that attaches to the needle, and float, to pull the needle open.

The only possibility that hasn't already been mentioned---fuel pump, fuel filter, float needle-----is possibly the pickup tube in the tank (maybe it has a crack or split in it, causing it to suck air when the fuel pump is pulling the hardest.
Hope you find it, and I like my browning gold, too!:)

took the carb off. needle and seat are clean, and seems to be closing and opening fine with air pressure. pump diaphragm does not seem hard. held it up to a light and could not see any pin holes in it.

what about the primer bulb in the line from the tank? a guy here at work seems to think that is the culprit.

Sometimes those check valves in the primers can be bad (often on the attwood junk from walmart) and that COULD be it, alright. Those checkvalves can cause some weird stuff when bad. I'd borrow a tank and hose and try that for sure!

I still doubt it's the primer bulb. My money's still on the pump.
