Is there a way to check to see if I am getting power to where my running lights plug in on the bow and the rear?

Yup. Try a voltmeter.

Re: Running Lights

Just expanding on this, you should buy a digital multimeter. Radio Shack sells inexpensive ones for $30. Just be sure to set the dial for Voltage measurement as the other settings such as resistance ("ohm") represent a short across the leads which you don't want.

A multimeter is a very useful device. I keep a cheap one on my boat permanently. You may want to spend a couple of dollars more and get one that can measure 10 to 20 amps of current also. This will come in handy for many other types of dianostic work. Just to go radioshack.com and search for "multimeter" and you will see all the choices.

If you want to spend less money, you can get a light-bulb type dc voltage detectors. Hadware stores should have these. But again, I recommend a proper multimeter.

Good luck,
Amir

Re: Running Lights

Just an FYI, but I found a $10 meter at ACE hardware that works beartifully. I have a $300 Fluke meter, but would rather take this and just leave it on the boat as part of my emergency tool kit.
