So I'm thinkin...why not run 40/1 instead of 50/1 in my 98 yamaha 115? Coudn't hurt..other than fouling if sitting at idle for a long time..seems it would just add some extra lube in the cylinders..but I am open to criticism on this...please..

If it's designed to run 50:1, I'd stick with it. Too much oil can make the engine run lean (less fuel to mix with the air) and in a two-stroke engine that's never a good thing.

Re: running higher oil to fuel ratio...

Two reasons for the oil in the gas: one is to lubricate bearings and cylinders/pistons, the other is for corrosion protection of bearings and shiny metal internal motor parts when motor is turned off. 100:1 is proved to be sufficient for lubrication but not so good for corrosion protection, therefore they recommend 50:1 So no real reason to increase oil in your fuel other than to burn more oil, smoke more, maybe more carbon on rings and exhaust ports. Good Luck!

I dont imagine that it would hurt, but probably isint necessary. I doubled oiled for 150 gallons one time because I bought a bunch of fuel that was recovered from a semi submersable by the coast guard. Drug boat or something. I got the gas for $1 per gallon, but it was premix. I couldnt figure out how to disable the automatic oiling system, so I just let it ride. No problems besides increased smoke.

I have read in factory manuals, motors with oil injection.that on break in 50to 1 mix in fuel and oil injection pump connected. this was mainly to purge air in injection system. But I have a friend who has been running 40-45 to 1 for ten years no damage yet.he aways is on heavy side with the oil. and we run our boats wide open or near for hours at a time with a heavy load. his is 88hp rude.
