Want to start engine before installing in boat.....did not remove P/S pump and associated brackets from boat when removed engine, did not want to fool w/ the P/S lines.
I'm assuming I can start engine w/ a fully charged battery and maybe connect a battery charger just to keep a charge on the battery.
Sound like a plan?.

If you're going to run it then without belts, how about water circulation? Hows about just reinstalling the alt, if the alt runs off a belt separate from the P/S belt, that solves the water circ pump issue. It may not matter if you are just running it for like 2 min but if you want to run it long enough to let it warm up, I'd want water going in and coming out....

Simply do not hook up the excite and battery wires to the alternator and it is just an idler pulley.

Also your engine was set up with full closed cooling, right? So you'd need water going into your thermo housing, and then feed the manifolds and risers, I think you can maybe just get a set of the regular open gaskets, bolt up your risers that way the water will go up into the manifolds and out the risers without having to bolt on the heat exchanger and all the plumbing for the full closed cooling, make it simple for a test run.

Ayuh,..... No battery charger needed, so long as it's a decent battery,.....

The only load is startin' the motor,.....

Engine systems once runnin', draw minimal power,.....
