Have an 83 mercury 80 hp that runs great although when I kick it in neutral the rpms come down to idle then almost instantly it revs back up to wide open throttle in neutral. The only way to get to idle back down is to grab control arms on side of motor and pull forward to get rpms to drop. Have checked the control arms to make sure nothing is hindering motion and have also removed cleaned and applied light coat of grease.spring in arm is not broken feels like it has good tension on it. Throttle cable moves freely. Just stumped as to what problem could be. Don't want to grenade my motor
