Run Generator while Under Way?

Hello,
Does anyone know if the generator needs to run while the engines are going? Is there an alternator? Four Winns V372 with Volvo Penta I/O.

Depends on the load of what you are running, and if the boat has an inverter. If you are running the AC I would run the generator.
