I have a honda BF75 7.5hp 4-stroke. It runs ruff with the cover on but as soon as you take it off the motor runs fine. The intake horn is not blocked nor are any fuel lines blocked with the cover on. The air holes in the top of the cover are open as well. I have even tried a different cover with the same result. Does anybody know what might be causing this?

Re: Ruff running engine with the cover on

You have an exhaust leak most likely at the exhaust tube that exits the cylinder head and channels that exhaust to the lower portion of this engine.A common failure on these old girls. If you want to see for yourself ,take a flashlight ,and with the engine running, peer down that deep crevase at the back of your engine and you will likely see a tube seething with leaking water and smoking with leaking exhaust at the same time.

Thanks alot for the information. I think you hit it exactly. I checked and sure enough there is a water leak in the location that you specified as well as some residual exhaust smoke that rises from that area after the engine is shut down. I appreciate the information.
