Rude 80Jet - weak water telltail

Went out two weeks ago and had a really weak water tell-tail(or whatever it is called) on my 1994 Evinrude 80Jet model E115JKLERS. Pulled the cowelling(sp) and blew through the line, no restriction. Ordered and installed a waterpump kit. No improvement. Wondering if I should move on to replacing the thermostats or if there is something else I should look at. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks,
Trent

Not familiar with your motor, but if you remove the tstat and the pisser works, I'd replace it. On my motor, however, when my tstats are closed the telltale is stronger. If you use in saltwater and do not flush with fresh water regularly, I would suspect crap buildup. Are the intakes clean? Are you sure the watertube in the LU is sealed? If it's been a few years since tstats were replaced, I'd start there.
Welcome to the forum, Good Luck, and let us know what happens.

Re: Rude 80Jet - weak water telltail

I have not run it in saltwater during the two years that I have owned it, but it was 8 years old when I got it. I'm not "sure" that the watertube in the lower unit is sealed, but I put on all new gaskets and rubber when I replaced the waterpump. As for the intakes, it's a jet so the intake is much different, no screens or anything (at least as far as I know). I guess I'll order a thermostat kit and see what happens.

Thanks,
Trent
