On this 70 HP 1987 Johnson, I noticed that the rudder, skag (don't know the correct nomenclature) is broken enough from past owner that the prop would hit an object before the rudder would. Can these be helio arc welding (aluminum) to create a longer extenstion on the rudder. I would imagine steering would also be enhanced?...or should I just live with it as is?........L

Re: Rudder broken!

Leopoldo, Get it fixed. It will save you much $ and aggrivation from damaged prop's. It is easy for any good welding shop to fix, or you can try the skeg protection products like Skeggard.
David

Skeggard would do the job in fifteen minutes with a screwdriver and a drill, no experience necessary.

Check it out: Skeggard
