Re: rub rails
I am in the process of repairing my bumprail.<br />After years of using the bumprails in docking operations(our dock is on an open body of water and there is always a tidal current going one way or the other), the screws just worked there way loose. THey were set in the seam between the hull and liner as well, so they didn't have a lot of glass to hold on to. I am in the process of filling in the seam with 2 part paste, and then I will redrill all the holes. I will probably put some 5200 on the threads as well. But I was told on another board that this was overkill, and that the rail should be somewhat "sacrificial", designed to give way before the glass does. That makes sense to me, but I have already started the process, so I believe I will finish. I still believe that in a hard enough bang, the 1" screws will give before the hull or liner cracks. Not that I plan on banging anything that hard, but stranger things have been known to happen.
